As part of
the
Premier's
Deputy
Minister
appointments,
Philip
Howell has
been
appointed the
new CEO and
Superintendent
of the
Financial
Services
Commission
of Ontario,
effective
August 19,
2009. Mr
Howell was
previously
acting CEO
of FSCO
prior to the
appointment
of Bryan
Davies. Mr.
Howell was
also
formerly the
Deputy
Minister of
the
Ministries
of Economic
Development
and Tourism.
He was the
Associate
Deputy
Minister of
the Treasury
Board
Office,
Assistant
Deputy
Minister and
Chief
Economist in
the Office
of Economic
Policy and
Director of
Taxation
Policy in
the Ministry
of Finance.
His
background
includes
responsibility
for economic
development
strategy,
industrial
and sectoral
policy in
the former
Ministry of
Economic
Development,
Trade and
Tourism,
where he was
also the
general
manager of
the Ontario
Aerospace
Corporation.
He has an
MSc in
economics
from the
London
School of
Economics
and a BA
(Honours) in
economics
from York
University.
